European Leasing Keeps Growing At A Steady Pace in 2025

Leaseurope, the trade association representing the European leasing and automotive rental industries, has released European leasing market figures for 2025. The market continued to grow last year.

Steady growth continues for European leasing

According to the 2025 Annual Statistical Enquiry, new leasing business in Europe reached almost €464 billion in 2025. This is a 3.2% increase compared to 2024. The number of new leasing contracts signed stayed stable. At the end of 2025, leased assets still outstanding across Europe were worth €1,024 billion, a 4.0% rise on the year before.

Results differed from region to region. Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) grew the fastest, with new leasing volumes up by more than 10%. Other regions also grew, but more slowly. In France and in the Nordic and Baltic countries, new business went down.

Automotive was again the biggest part of the market, making up 74% of all new business, or around €343 billion. Passenger cars drove the growth in this segment, rising by 3.2%. Commercial vehicles were broadly stable, with a small fall of 0.1%. Outside automotive, big ticket assets such as ships and aircraft grew strongly, by 18.4%. Machinery and industrial equipment rose by 3.1%, and real estate grew by a notable 15.5%. Overall, leasing grew in almost every asset category in 2025. Commercial vehicles were the only segment with a slight decline.
